The name is the whole proposition, and it holds: this is a family kitchen and you are in it, not a cooking school that has borrowed the word home.

Five and a half hours, 9:30 to 15:00, with a boat trip in the middle and a welcome drink when you arrive. What you cook you eat, and the recipe book comes with you.

Six travellers to a booking and twelve in the room at the outside, which is the reason the day works the way it does. At that size a class stops being a demonstration and turns into people cooking together, badly at first, in somebody's house.

The class runs in English or French. Infant seats are available. Insurance is not included.

  1. Ngô Quyền/61 Islet, An Hội, Hội An

The meeting point is the Heaven & Earth Bicycle Tour agency. There are signs on the right-hand side of the street.

  2. Boat to the island and family cooking class

A boat trip of about 35 minutes to a family village on a small island in the river delta of Hoi An. On arrival the group is served a fresh fruit juice and learns about Vietnamese countryside life and meets the grandmother. The cooking lesson takes place in the family's home. It shows how rice paper for fried egg rolls is made, and how to prepare typical dishes of the region: banh xeo (small rice flour crepes, a Hoi An specialty), grilled marinated pork skewers with a special sauce, green papaya salad and fish cooked to a local recipe. A vegetarian menu is available on request: banh xeo, grilled eggplant, green papaya salad, mushrooms and a tofu clay pot. The meal is eaten in the grandmother's garden, with pumpkin soup and xi ma, a black sesame pudding for dessert. The group returns to Hoi An by boat.
