No Tagine, No Couscous: Nine Stops in the Hidden Medina
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
MarrakechThe pitch is four words long and it is the best one in Marrakech: No tagine. No couscous.
That is not contrarian. Tagine and couscous are what Moroccan restaurants serve visitors, and they are excellent, and they are also a fraction of what people here actually eat. Nine stops through the parts of the Medina that tourists do not reach, and the food is Berber, which is the older layer underneath the one on the menus.
Three hours, with a licensed local guide. All the food tastings are included, nine dishes or more, and so is water and either mint tea or a herbal infusion. Hotel pick-up is not, and neither is anything you decide to buy for yourself along the way.
Up to thirty travellers per booking, and the guiding is in English, French, Italian or Arabic, which is a wider range than most.
It starts at the Cafe Argana on Jemaa el-Fna, and then leaves the square, which is the point.
The operator lists the route as wheelchair accessible, surfaces included, and rates it suitable for all levels of fitness. Prams are fine, and service animals are allowed.
