Ten Tastings, Your Guide and Nobody Else
A private walk: your party and one local guide, with nobody else booked alongside. Three hours, ten tastings, up to eight people from your own group.
What the private format actually changes is the pace. The guide picks the ten based on what they themselves eat, and can drop a stop or linger at one because there is nobody else's schedule to keep. If you want more of the salt cod and less of the sweet, you say so.
The tastings run savoury to sweet with local drinks, and include the two things Porto is named in: port, and pastel de nata, the custard tart whose caramelised top comes from an oven hot enough to blister it in minutes.
Between the food you get the city. The Bolhão area, Rua de Santa Catarina, the Galerias Palladium, and the Capela das Almas, whose entire exterior is covered in blue and white azulejos showing scenes from the lives of Saint Francis and Saint Catherine. Attractions are seen from outside; entrance tickets are not included.
The operator runs this format in cities worldwide, pays its guides a fair fee, sources locally, keeps groups small and non-intrusive, and certifies the experience as carbon neutral as a B-Corp.
In Portuguese or English. Vegetarian alternatives and other dietary needs can be arranged by messaging your host before the day.
