Out of Porto at 10:00 from the front of the Palácio da Bolsa, so the day in the Douro starts without an early alarm. Guests are asked to arrive ten minutes before departure, and the guide wears an Oporto Road Trips badge.

The road is the N222. The group drives through Peso da Régua, one of the valley's main wine towns, and reaches Folgosa and the boat.

The cruise lasts one hour. Three DOC Douro wines come with Portuguese cheeses, cured meats, bread and olive oil, and the terraced vineyards of the UNESCO-listed valley stay in view the whole way.

After the boat the group goes to Quinta do Val Moreira, a wine estate among the terraces. A guided tour explains how the wine is made and ends with a tasting of three Port wines. With the wines on the boat, that makes six in the day.

The drive back passes the Bagaúste Dam and takes about an hour and a half, ending at the Palácio da Bolsa in the late afternoon.

Up to nineteen guests travel in an air-conditioned Mercedes, guided in English. Cruise tickets, winery admission and tastings are included. Hotel pick-up and gratuities are not.

Every activity is under cover, so the day runs in any weather, but the valley is very hot in summer and cold in winter: dress for the month and bring water. Not recommended for pregnant travelers or for children. If you bring children, car seats are legally required, so declare them in advance.
