Shopping the Neighbourhood Shops with Najla, Not the Souk
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
MarrakechThe shopping is the tell. Most Marrakech classes take you to the souk, which is fine and is also where everyone goes. Najla takes you to the small shops in her own neighbourhood, near Berrima, which is where she actually buys.
Then her kitchen, which is hers, not a school's. One traditional meal, prepared step by step with her guiding rather than demonstrating, and enough time in four hours to do it slowly.
Afterwards you sit down and eat what you made, with proper Moroccan tea and pastries.
She is clear about what this is: less a course than an afternoon in a Moroccan house, with the food as the reason to be there.
Up to fifteen people, in English or French, with bottled water.
Wheelchair accessible throughout, prams fine, and private transport is not included.

If you take a taxi, give the driver this address: Berrima, next to the Pharmacie El Badii. If you would rather walk, put Pharmacie El Badii into Google Maps. I will meet you outside the pharmacy, so please wait outside rather than going in.

Neighbourhood shopping and Moroccan cooking class
The group buys what the class needs at small local shops near the host's home, not at a point of sale. Afternoon workshops skip the shopping, because fresh vegetables are no longer available at that hour. Book a morning class to take part in buying the ingredients. Back at the house, the class begins with the preparation of real Moroccan tea, enjoyed with Moroccan cookies and pastries. The menu then covers starters and a main course, cooked step by step with the host's own techniques and her choice of herbs and spices.
